The wait time for Public Housing depends on when a vacant unit is available.
When an apartment becomes available, the applicant next on the list for the correct bedroom size is contacted. The applicant can refust the unit and the application will be placed at the end of the waiting list. If the applicant refuses a second time, they will be removed from the waiting list.
If the applicant would like to rent the unit, the MHA will ask the applicant to submit identifying documentation (Birth Certificate, Social Security Card and Picture ID), income verification, and any other documentation needed to determine your final eligibility.
A National background check will be completed on all adults in the household. The MHA will review the results and decide if the applicant is still eligible.
