• Public Housing is limited to low-income families and individuals. Please reference Annual Gross Income limits below to determine eligibility.

1 person - $47,900           2 persons - $54,750         3 persons - $61,600

Preferences Given for the Following: 

• Honorable Discharge from Active Duty Veteran Status

• Live or Work in Middletown, NJ

• Live or Work in Monmouth County, NJ

Waiting List

• The wait time for Public Housing depends on when a vacant unit is available. 

• When an apartment becomes available, the applicant next on the list for the correct bedroom size is contacted.  The applicant can refust the unit and the application will be placed at the end of the waiting list.  If the applicant refuses a second time, they will be removed from the waiting list.

•  If the applicant would like to rent the unit, the MHA will ask the applicant to submit identifying documentation (Birth Certificate, Social Security Card and Picture ID), income verification, and any other documentation needed to determine your final eligibility.

• A National background check will be completed on all adults in the household. The MHA will review the results and decide if the applicant is still eligible.

Updating Your Application

It is your responsibility to keep the Waiting List information current at all times. All changes must be provided in writing.   If you fail to report a new address or other changes, we may not be able to contact you when your name is pulled from the Waiting List.

• Use the Drop Box located outside our main door at the office.

If you fail to keep us informed of these changes, you could actually EXTEND your wait time or cause your removal from the waiting list.

Apply for Housing

Please be advised the Middletown Housing Authority is accepting applications for ONE and TWO bedroom units located at Alice Tomaso Plaza Apartments.  The on-line application can be accessed by the link below.

Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and added to the existing waiting list.  At this point in time, we will only be accepting applications who are 62 years of age or older as the under 62 and disabled waiting list is at capacity.
